About the Award:
This internship opportunity is hosted within the Publications, Conference, and Knowledge Management Division, Office of Information and Communications Technology Services Section (ICTSS). It’s important to note that this internship is UNPAID and requires a full-time commitment (five days per week for 35 hours). The minimum duration of the internship is four (4) months, extendable up to six (6) months. Interns will operate under the guidance of the Chief, ICTSS, or delegated staff within the Publications, Conference, and Knowledge Management Division, Office of Information and Communications Technology Services Section (ICTSS).

Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, ICTSS, the incumbent’s responsibilities in the Publications, Conference, and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD), Information and Communications Technology Services Section (ICTSS) will vary based on their background and the internship period. Responsibilities may include:
Assisting in the management and support of ECA Enterprise Network infrastructure.
Configuring network devices, including routers, switches, and access points.
Administering network management and monitoring solutions.
Monitoring network device health and troubleshooting issues.
Operating and administering Internet Firewalls to protect ECA enterprise network infrastructure.
Deploying and maintaining security systems.
Configuring servers and installing server applications.
Applying OS patches and upgrades.
Adding new services as necessary.
Enhancing website functionality.
Conducting research and data analysis.
Documenting internal operational processes for optimization.
Testing new functionality in systems.
Preparing training materials, user requirements, and specifications.
Collaborating with users, vendors, and UN teams.
Assisting in various IT functions.
Supporting meetings, conferences, workshops, and events.
Providing assistance for computer information systems and applications.
Performing other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
Eligibility criteria for UNECA International Internship 2024
- Enrollment in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or
- Enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), or
- Graduation with a university degree (as defined above) and the ability to commence the internship within a year of graduation.
- Computer literacy in standard software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
- Work Experience:
- No prior work experience is required for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your education, training, advanced coursework, or skills should contribute to the United Nations during your internship.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for this position and knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset.
