University of Florida MS Research Assistantship —Embark on a two-year MS research assistantship delving into the reproductive roles of the Super-conserved Receptors Expressed in Brain (SREB) receptor family in a comparative fish model. SREBs, highly conserved G protein–coupled receptors, play critical roles in reproduction, immunity, and energy metabolism. This innovative project aims to enhance our understanding of their ligands and downstream signaling pathways, focusing on nonmammalian vertebrates and employing a comparative approach across multiple fish species.
Responsibilities:
The graduate student will maintain and condition the model fish species, conduct in vitro experiments, and participate in transcriptomic analyses. The co-advisors for this project are Dr. Matthew DiMaggio at the Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory and Dr. Christopher Martyniuk at the Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology.
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in biology, zoology, marine sciences, aquaculture, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience and familiarity with molecular techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary/Benefits:
The position offers an annual stipend, tuition remission, and health insurance.
How to Apply:
Interested applicants should submit the following documents as a single PDF or Word file via email to Dr. Matthew DiMaggio (mdimaggi@ufl.edu) and Dr. Christopher Martyniuk (cmartyn@ufl.edu) by the February 23, 2024 deadline:
- Cover letter summarizing interest in the position, qualifications, experience, and research/career aspirations.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Unofficial academic transcripts.
- Names and contact information for three professional references.
Note: Final candidates will be contacted and required to submit formal applications to the University of Florida graduate school.
