The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) invites applications from individuals from developing countries with a commitment to their nations’ development. This scholarship offers opportunities for pursuing master’s degrees in development-related fields at renowned universities across selected countries.
Host Institutions/Programs of Study:
The JJ/WBGSP sponsors 52 Participating Programs offered by universities in the U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.
Target Group:
Nationals of developing countries that are members of the World Bank.

Duration: Covers the entirety of the graduate program or two years, whichever is shorter.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- National of a World Bank member country (listed on the website)
- Not possess dual citizenship of any developed country
- Not be affiliated with the World Bank Group or closely related to its staff
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline
- Possess a minimum of 3 years of recent development-related work experience after earning the Bachelor’s degree
- Employed in full-time paid development-related work at the time of scholarship application submission
- Unconditionally admitted to a JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program located outside the applicant’s country of citizenship and residence
Application Instructions:
- Obtain unconditional acceptance to at least one Participating Program before applying for the scholarship.
- Upload an unconditional letter of acceptance from a participating master’s degree program.
Applications are online during two windows:
Window #1: January 15, 2024, to February 29, 2024, noon Washington time
Window #2: March 25, 2024, to May 24, 2024, noon Washington time
