Calling passionate researchers! Texas A&M University is offering fully funded graduate assistantships to study mussel ecology under the supervision of Dr. Charles Randklev and Dr. Roel Lopez.
Research Focus:
- PhD: Evaluate population dynamics of rare mussels to aid conservation efforts.
- MS (1): Assess mussel growth using lab and field methods.
- MS (2): Test the effects of temperature on mussels to inform environmental flow management.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Full tuition coverage for 2 (MS) or 3 (PhD) years.
- Annual stipend: ~$32,000 (MS) or ~$35,000 (PhD).

Eligibility:
- MS: BS in Biology or related field, research experience in aquatic ecology/community ecology/ecotoxicology.
- PhD: MS in Biology or related field, research experience in environmental modeling/statistics.
- Strong communication, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to work independently, valid driver’s license, comfort working outdoors and in water.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 (MS), 3.5 (PhD).
- Competitive GRE scores (60th+ percentile for MS, 70th+ percentile for PhD).
Preferred Qualifications (for each position):
- MS: Experience with freshwater mussels, publications relevant to the field.
- PhD: Experience with species distribution models, strong statistics background, coding ability.
