Ghent University – IDLab, a core research group of imec, a leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, conducts fundamental and applied research at Ghent University. With over 300 researchers, IDLab focuses on data science, internet technology, machine learning, and data mining. The PhD position is within the stimulating environment of IDLab, emphasizing data-efficient machine learning techniques for complex problems in science and engineering. The research is part of national and international projects on Automation in Machine Learning (AutoML).
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply machine learning algorithms like generative models, neural networks, Gaussian Processes, and Bayesian optimization to solve intricate problems in science and engineering.
- Engage in daily operations of the research group and collaborate with industrial and academic partners.
- Publish research findings in major international conferences and journals as part of Ph.D. requirements.
Qualifications:
- Hold (or will obtain soon) a (European) master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent, with outstanding grades.
- Possess a robust background in machine learning and a keen interest in advancing the state-of-the-art.
- Proficient in computer science skills (e.g., Python, Git).
- Experience with machine learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow is advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret research results.
- Excellent team player with effective communication skills.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
