Calling passionate ecologists! The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is offering a fully-funded PhD assistantship to investigate the role of forest microbiomes in oak tree adaptation to climate change.
Project Focus:
- Explore the crucial link between forest microbial communities and oak trees’ ability to withstand drought and other climate change impacts.
- Analyze how the oak holobiont (tree + associated microbes) contributes to adaptive evolution in oak populations.
- Conduct research in Hauts-de-France, France, comparing native and introduced oak species.
Eligibility:
- Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Forestry, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- Strong English language proficiency (speaking and writing).
- Interest and skills in:
- Formulating research questions
- Outdoor fieldwork
- Molecular biology (preferred)
- Programming (R/Python, preferred)
Benefits:
- Full funding for three years (including tuition, stipend, and likely health insurance).
- Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and publish your findings.
- Join a vibrant research community at UMass Lowell.
Application Process:
- Prepare your application materials:
- Motivation letter outlining your research interests and experience.
- CV (Curriculum Vitae) highlighting your qualifications and academic background.
- Recommendation letter from a professor or academic advisor.
- Summary of relevant grades from your Master’s program.
- Submit your application by email to Professor Marco Cosme at [email address removed] by March 15, 2024. Applications may be accepted even after the deadline until a suitable candidate is found.
