UNESCO and IEEE Entrepreneurship are launching an intensive 5-day bootcamp in Luanda, Angola, from September 9 to 13, 2024. This program targets early-career engineers across Africa who are interested in acquiring entrepreneurial skills to market their scientific inventions.
About the Bootcamp
The bootcamp is part of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024-2033) and the 10th Africa Engineering Week. Participants will engage in a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their understanding of sustainable development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Key topics include:
– Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Understanding the role of engineering and innovation in sustainable development.
– Opportunity Assessment: Identifying and evaluating business opportunities.
– Intellectual Property (IP): Learning the significance of IP in protecting inventions.
– Financial Literacy for Start-ups: Gaining basic financial knowledge crucial for start-ups.
– Market Readiness: Processes and timelines for taking an invention to market.
– Business Models and Plans: Developing robust business strategies.
– Innovation Tools and Success Stories: Learning from real-world examples and key decisions faced by start-ups.
– Fundraising: Strategies for securing funds for start-ups.
Participants will benefit from lectures, discussions, mentor group activities, and one-on-one mentoring sessions. Additionally, they will work in teams to develop and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. Prior to the bootcamp, two online sessions will be held for brainstorming and idea development.
Eligibility Criteria for the 2024 UNESCO-IEEE Entrepreneurship Bootcamp
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
– Age: Below 35 years by December 31, 2024.
– Professional Status: Early-career engineers, including engineering students and practitioners.
– Nationality and Residency: Must be nationals and residents of an African country.
– Availability: Must be available for the entire duration of the bootcamp, including the pre-bootcamp online sessions.
